PART ONE: INVISIBLE CITIES OF MARGHARITA MONTICIANO

Nutmeg Puppet Company, UK

Four of Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities are re-created - four elusive, decadent, shadowy, reflections of La Serenissima - the seductive, rapacious city of Venice - personified by Margharita Monticiano, an ageing beauty who sees the world from her own erotic viewpoint…

A sly confection of shadows and projected images by Meg Amsden, Nutmeg Puppet Co and Joy Haynes, Norwich Puppet Theatre.

PART TWO: HER CUP OF TEA

TIP Connection, Finland & Estonia

The instant a tea bag is dropped into a cup of hot water, the irreversible happens: something is destroyed and something new is created.  A moment as simple as this can be the moment your destiny is decided. Your love, your hope, your dreams can all hang on one person’s gaze, to be realised or dashed with simply a look.

In Chekov’s tragicomedy Uncle Vanya, Sonja is the dutiful daughter of a bitter old man. Her predicament of undeclared love and a search for an escape from monotony is delicately explored in a play examining that most human of moments when the words ‘I love you’ are said with equal parts hope and dread.

TIP Connection is an Estonian company formed by graduates of the Turku Arts Academy in Finland. Their work involves international partnerships and the company has already collaborated with artists in Russia, Lithuania, France and Norway.
